    INSTALLATION

OPERATION
BASE MATE can be installed easily to most extension ladders constructed from wood, aluminum, and fiberglass.

  Tools required:
  .

• Small Square
• Pencil
• Hand or mechanical saw
• Electric drill
• 1/4" drill bit
• 7/16" wrenches or socket set
• Two clamps

Note: Wood ladders require additional bracing not supplied with kit.

The lower side rails need to be cut down to accommodate the BASE MATE brackets.
1. Measure inside dimension "W" of side rails for dimension "D". Draw a line at "D" from the underside of the first ladder rung. (Fig.1)

2. Cut the ladder rail to your line. (Fig.2)
IMPORTANT: Cuts must be made square and even from side to side.

3. Using bracket (8) as a guide, drill 1⁄4" holes, inserting a 1⁄4" bolt each time for alignment.

Note: For wood or box extrusion ladders, drill half way from each side. Check that bracket does not twist and remains square to opposite rail. (Fig.3)

With bracket (8) in place, position Spacer Bracket (7) and Bracket (3) as shown. Insert 1⁄4" x 2" (11) bolts through assembly and tighten nuts until snug + 1⁄4 turn.
Note: Wood ladders do not require spacer (7)

5 Adjust cylinders to the width of the ladder by pushing down on lock plate (4) and sliding around the curved leg (1). IMPORTANT : BASE MATE Must be installed with radius "R" at foot forward, (opposite to climbing side), to allow the feet to pivot.

6 Push cylinders (2) onto bracket (3) and insert 1⁄4" x 3 1⁄4" bolts (10) through the cylinder. Tighten until snug, and then loosen by 1/4 turn.

      IMPORTANT NOTICE:
It is the responsibility of the operator to ensure that the ladder, to which this product is being installed, is structurally sound. The Basemate is designed to be light and accomplishes this by utilizing the structure and inherent strength of the ladder.

WOOD LADDERS:

Wood ladders require further reinforcing to prevent the side rails from disconnecting from the ladder rungs. A steel rod tie between the ladder side rails or other means to prevent spreading of the rails will need to be employed.
